Bay Area Toll Payment Plan

The Bay Area Toll Payment Plan is a program that allows people who meet a low-income threshold to make payments on past-due tolls, violation penalties and DMV fees. Payments may be made over a period of two years or less. You must have a gross household income (before taxes) of 200% of the federal poverty level. Following is a chart showing the maximum household income limits for eligibility, depending on how many people are in your household.

How does the Bay Area Toll Payment Plan work?

You must first apply online at bayareatollpaymentplan.org to see if you are eligible. If you are approved, you will need to call the FasTrak Customer Service Center at 877-BAY-TOLL and ask to set up a payment plan with your provided confirmation number. The customer service representative will walk you through the process to set up your plan. At the time you initiate your payment plan, you will need to pay 50% of your overdue tolls or $100, whichever is less.

Once your plan is set up, you will receive a confirmation email with details about your plan. You will have four options for making payments:

  • Automatic payments: Place a valid credit or debit card on file to be automatically charged on each due date.
  • In person: Cash, check, money order, credit card and debit card payments can be made at the FasTrak Walk-In Customer Service Center located at 375 Beale St., San Francisco. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Phone: Credit card payments can be made by calling 877-BAY-TOLL (877-229-8655). Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • By mail: Checks or money orders can be sent to Bay Area Toll Payment Plan, P.O. Box 26901, San Francisco, CA 94126. Payments should be made payable to Bay Area Toll Authority and refer to your Payment Plan Number. Do not send cash by mail.

Will I receive any other discounts if I apply for a toll payment plan?

No, you cannot receive a discount on tolls or DMV fees owed, but you may be able to take advantage of a waiver for violation penalties. See Violation Penalty Waivers FAQ for details.

How do I apply for a toll payment plan?

You can apply for the Bay Area Toll Payment Plan using the online application at bayareatollpaymentplan.org. The application walks you through the process and gives you the option to save and return to your application at a later date. You can apply from a desktop computer or your smartphone.

How long does it take to get approved for a toll payment plan?

Please allow 30 calendar days after we receive your online application.

If I am approved for a toll payment plan, what is the next step?

How can I make payments? Can I pay in cash at a cash payment network?

Unfortunately, Cash Payment Network locations cannot accept payments for your payment plan.

Yes, you can put tolls, violations and DMV fees incurred on any Bay Area bridge or express lane into a payment plan.

What if I have violations for more than one vehicle that I want to put into a payment plan?

You will need to set up a separate payment plan for each vehicle.

Is the $100 minimum to initiate a payment plan calculated before or after waivers for violation penalties are applied?

This requirement is calculated after violation penalty waivers are applied.

What if I have less than $100 and still need a payment plan?

The requirement is to pay $100 or 50% of tolls owed, whichever is less. Please be sure you have taken advantage of any waivers available.

Can I pay off my plan early?

Yes.

I have a lot of violations, and even with the waivers applied, I can’t afford the monthly payment. Are there more options for debt relief?

No.

I can’t register my car because I have violations on my registration renewal. What can I do?

First, call the FasTrak Customer Service Center to see if you are eligible for violation penalty waivers. If you are a low-income driver (see here), you may be eligible for additional waivers for violations from express lanes tolls, based on the toll operator (see here). If, after receiving any additional penalty waivers, you still owe at least $100, you may apply for a payment plan to pay off your debt over time.

How long after I set up my payment plan will I be able to register my vehicle?

Any hold on your vehicle registration will be released within 10 working days of your first payment, and you will then be able to register your vehicle.
